Treating hearing loss can significantly reduce the risk of cognitive decline

Good hearing contributes to brain health!

New research has shown that hearing better, by wearing hearing aids, can help maintain cognitive health. Having good hearing plays a major role in overall well-being and mental health as a person ages.

DID YOU KNOW THAT?

To treat hearing loss, wearing hearing aids is an easily accessible solution and has many benefits.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO THE BRAIN OF TREATING HEARING LOSS?

Hearing aids improve listening and communication skills.

This helps by staying socially active and fully enjoying interactions regardless of listening situations.

Hearing aids can have beneficial effects on the proper functioning of our brain.

Better hearing helps maintain various cognitive functions, such as memory and thinking skills.

What do scientific studies say on the subject?

19% Reduced risk of cognitive decline

In 2022: A study showed that treating hearing loss with hearing aids can help delay cognitive decline. A 19% risk reduction was observed with hearing aid use.

48% Slowing down cognitive decline

In 2023: A study4 found that among older adults at high risk of cognitive decline (e.g., living alone, low education/income, with diabetes and others), treatment of hearing loss with hearing aids slowed down loss of thinking and memory by 48%.

These findings highlight the links between cognition, hearing loss, and the importance of improving hearing for healthy aging and protecting brain health.
